A minor metabolite of oestrone produced via the CYP1B1 enzyme during Phase I oestrogen metabolism. It is a catechol oestrogen that can form reactive quinone metabolites capable of causing DNA damage, and is considered a potentially genotoxic oestrogen pathway.
