A metabolite of oestrone formed via the CYP3A4 enzyme that is a potent, proliferative oestrogen. An elevated ratio of 16α-hydroxyoestrone relative to 2-hydroxyoestrone has been associated with increased risk of oestrogen-related conditions, including breast cancer.
